What is NICOP?

NICOP stands for the Northwest Interlibrary Cooperative of Pennsylvania. We are a consortium of 28 libraries from the 7 county region that includes Clarion, Crawford, Erie, Forest, Mercer, Venango, and Warren counties. Altogether, NICOP’s libraries serve a population of about 600,000 people.

Disater Planning Sites

There are numerous resources on the web that can be helpful in creating a disaster plan. Included below are links to help, educate, plan and eventually implement a disaster plan.

It is helpful to explain to staff and administrators on the need for a library disaster plan. There are numerous articles on the imprortance of disaster plans. This site here has a pretty comprehensive list of disaster articles.

Looking at ohter libraries disaster plans can also be a helpful. This site lists numerous disaster plans from large academic and public libraries, such as Harvard University.

Finally being able to develop a disaster plan from a template can be useful, especially for libraries with limited resources. Amigos Library Systems has developed a pdf file that covers all of the areas that should be covered in a disaster plan. The pdf document can be found here .
